Behind the Scenes of the Vintage Pink Daisy Pillow Pattern

The Process

I started making this pillow because this summer, I am beginning to sell some pillowcases on Etsy. The past few years I have just been selling patterns, so it is exciting to finally start selling the actual pillows. After I listed the first few, I felt like I needed to add a big pink flower one to the shop!

I ended up going with some vintage inspired colors for the front side. This pillow works up pretty quickly, so it would be fun to make it again and try out some different color combinations.

The back of the pillow is a pink solid granny square, and five buttons hold the bottom together, so it can easily be taken on and off the insert.

Background Information

Materials

  • 4.00 mm crochet hook
  • Scissors and a tapestry needle- for weaving in ends
  • 18 by 18 inch (45 by 45 cm) square pillow insert
  • 5 buttons (1.5 cm in diameter)
  • Yarn

Yarn I Used

Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/8 (100% cotton; 82 yd (75 m) / 50 g (1.75 oz))

  • 1 sage green (green)
  • 5 old rose (pink- 2 for the flower and 3 for the back side)
  • 2 beige (cream)
  • 1 light jeans blue (teal)
  • 1 jeans blue (blue)
  • 1 pastel pink (light pink)

Note about Yarn Substitution

I used one of my favorite yarns for this pillow- Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/8. It is a light worsted, dk weight yarn. Some dk weight yarns are closer to a sport weight yarn and others are similar to medium weight yarn. This one is closer to a medium weight yarn. If you would like to use a different yarn and want your pillow to be the same size as mine, compare the yd/ g to see if it would be a good substitute. Otherwise, when you finish the front side, measure it, and it will fit a pillow insert that is 1-2 in (2.5 – 5 cm) longer than it!

Gauge and Size

16 sts and 7 rows = 4 inches (10 cm)

The gauge provided is measured with U.S. double crochet stitches (UK treble) worked in rows.

Pillows should always be 1-2 in (2.5 – 5 cm) smaller than the insert, so they are stretched over the insert. Hence, the front and the back of the pillow should both be about 16 by 16 in (41 by 41 cm).

Terminology

If you purchase this pattern, you will receive two pdfs- one in U.S. terms and one in UK.

That’s all the background information! Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoy the pattern. You could also just crochet the pink daisy to use as a decoration if you would like.

If you make the pattern, I would love to see some pictures!
