Part 1 of Learn to Crochet will be a little introduction! In the video, we will go over how to choose some yarn and a crochet hook as well as how to make a slipknot and hold the yarn.
For this blog post, I wanted to talk about some of the yarn that I used when I was learning how to crochet as well as include the information for the yarn and crochet hooks that you will see in the videos!

Learn to Crochet
If you want to learn a little more about the Learn to Crochet series, I made a little introduction post for it:
Yarn Recommendations

When you first start crocheting, I would recommend using either medium or dk weight yarn. If you look on the yarn label, it will tell you the suggested hook side. Anything from sizes 3.5 mm – 5.00 mm (that’s sizes E- H) would be a good yarn to start with!
I am almost always crocheting with cotton yarn! Depending on who you talk to, they may recommend other fibers such as wool, acrylic, etc. Feel free to try out different fibers!
When I was learning…
After digging through my camera roll, I can’t find any pictures of the yarn I used a lot when I first started. It was Crafter’s Secret Cotton Yarn from Hobby Lobby, and they still have it! It comes in lots of pretty variegated and solid colors.
I would also get a lot of yarn at Micheals by the brand Patons.
Yarn Seen in the Videos

The yarn that is laying on my desk in the videos is Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/6. The yarn that I am crocheting with is either Paintbox Cotton Aran (from lovecrafts) or Hobbii Rainbow Cotton.
Hobbii Yarn has two similar cotton yarns that I use a lot- Friends Cotton and Rainbow Cotton. They both come in three weights: 8/4, 8/6, and 8/8. The 8/4 is the thinnest. The 8/8 is probably the best for when you first start. Paintbox Cotton Aran is very similar to it (you can use either a 4.0 or 4.5 mm hook with both of them)!
Crochet Hooks
The crochet hooks that I use are Clover Amour crochet hooks, and it seems like a lot of the crocheters I follow on Instagram use them too! However, there are lots of crochet hook brands to choose from!
Up Next: Circles

Thanks for reading! In the next part, we will crochet a circle!
