Hi, I’m Maggie! Out of all the crochet-related things I have been doing lately, filming YouTube videos has been one of my favorites! It’s probably because I have always enjoyed teaching. I have been wanting to film some beginner-friendly videos for a while now, and I thought it would be fun to organize them in a Learn to Crochet series. The idea is that if you already have some crochet experience, you can tune into the videos that you are interested in. If you are an absolute beginner, make sure to watch the first three in order and then, you can skip around as you would like.

I learned how to crochet back in 2017. I was in high school, and I learned from watching videos. At first, I tried to learn how to crochet in rows. I remember becoming very frustrated! The edges of the work were never straight- the rows would slowly become shorter. I always ended up with something that resembled a trapezoid (and it was supposed to be a rectangle)!
When I learned how to crochet in the round, I started to enjoy it! Circles were the first thing I learned how to crochet successfully, and then I started crocheting lots of stacks of granny squares. I liked crocheting in the round because I felt like it was easier to hold the work and count the stitches.

Therefore, for these videos, we will begin by crocheting in the round! We’ll start with circles and then granny squares. Afterwards, we will go over how to crochet in rows. There will also be some other videos such as how to change color, textured stitches, begin with a magic circle, etc. I will try to add a few small patterns into the series, so you can use what we are making for some projects!
I hope you enjoy the videos! Each YouTube video will have a blog post to go along with it with the written pattern for what we are making and some step-by-step pictures. I filmed all of these videos during the summer, and I plan to upload them on the weekends. The link for the Learn to Crochet page is below which will include all of the parts that have been released so far.
