How to Make Your Crochet Look Neater- Learn to Crochet Part 11

For part 11 of Learn to Crochet, we are going to go over some methods that will make your crochet projects look neater! The standing double crochet stitch (UK standing treble) replaces a chain 3 at the beginning of a round/row and blends in with the other stitches nicer. The invisible fasten off is another way to fasten off at the end of a round. The video tutorial is on YouTube.

This is the last part of Learn to Crochet (for now). I had ideas for two more parts that would introduce some new stitches, but I did not get a chance to film them over the summer. I am hoping to film some more videos in December. 🙂

Starting Stitches

The chain 3 at the beginning of a row or round that counts as the first double crochet stitch (UK treble) does not blend in with the other stitches very nicely. There is a stitch that replaces the chain 3. It is called the standing double crochet stitch.

There are two versions of the standing double crochet: one for when the yarn is already attached to the work and one for when the next row/round is a different color. We go over both of them in the video!

Also, there are standing stitches that replace a chain 2 and chain 4, but I do not use them very often. Standing stitches are also referred to as starting stitches.

Invisible Fasten Off

The invisible fasten off is a slightly cleaner way to fasten off at the end of a round. I typically only use it for the last round of a project. We go over the invisible fasten off at the end of the video!

This is the Last Part (for now)

Thanks so much for tuning in with the Learn to Crochet videos! I filmed these all in the summer and I am hoping to film some more videos this December. If you are interested, I have some free patterns on my blog that include video tutorials (I’ll link the page below). 🙂
